A NOTE FROM PASTOR RONNY…

Fall is finally here. Thank the Lord for the cooler temperatures and relief. Hopefully our A/C units can take a break, allowing our utility bills to decrease, too. 

October is a celebratory month for FBC Clarksville. Our church turns 195 years old this month. And yes, you read that number correctly. The church was founded in 1831. Pastor Reuben Ross served the church for ten years (1831-1841). I'm thankful for the many pastors who have served the Lord and His church throughout the years. Our church has been blessed and favored by the Lord. 

On Sunday night, October 4, we're offering the third Evening of Prayer and Praise. A primary focus that evening is the church's 195th anniversary. You'll hear historical facts, personal testimonies, and specific prayers as we praise the Lord for His faithfulness to FBC Clarksville. The worship experience begins at 5:00 p.m. in the Grace Worship Center. 

Also on that day is Generosity Sunday. We're asking our church family to increase their percentage of giving on that day. You and I will never outgive God in the Christian life. For example, if you give 4% regularly, perhaps consider giving 6% on that day. If you consistently give 10%, consider giving 12% on Generosity Sunday. Our church depends on the tithes and offerings of its members, and we don't rely on fundraisers. As your pastor, thank you for your faithful and sacrificial giving. Your generosity makes a tremendous difference in the ministries of our church.  

The staff team and I plan to meet on Monday, October 5, for our annual planning day. I invite you to pray for us that day. Our desire is to hear from the Lord and make sure our plans are His plans (Proverbs 16:3). I'm grateful for the ministry team at FBC Clarksville. These men and women love the Lord, one another, and you. 

My next Iron Sharpens Iron Pastors' Retreat is scheduled for October 26-27, 2026. Eight pastors from Kentucky and Tennessee are planning to participate. We're meeting at the offices of the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board in Franklin. Convention leaders are partnering with us, with the goal of replicating the retreat format across the state in 2027.

Legacy Christmas Trip to Nashville, TN

Join our Legacy Ministry for a festive Christmas trip on Saturday, December 12th! We will enjoy lunch at Puckett’s in downtown Nashville at 11:00am, followed by The Nutcracker at TPAC at 2:00pm.

MILITARY MINISTRY VOLUNTEER TEAM

Our Military Ministry exists to support, encourage, and ministry to service members, veterans, retirees and their families.

Volunteer Service Team Opportunities:

Prayer Team: We pray consistently for service members, veterans, retirees and their families–interceding for their needs, protection, and strength.
Connection and Visitation Team: We build relationships, stay in touch, and visit military members, retirees, and their families to encourage and support them.
Projects, Deployment, and Support Team: We provide practical help and support during deployments and times of need.

MISSIONS

ARISE2READ - NORMAN SMITH ELEMENTARY 

Our church has an opportunity to be the hands of feet of Jesus in our community. This opportunity is to serve the 2nd grade students at Norman Smith Elementary School with their reading deficits. It is an easy sight word program and you don’t have to have a teaching background to make a difference. We will serve the kids on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:15-3:30pm following the CMCSS schedule. Serve 1:8

Mark your calendars for Serve 1:8 on November 15! Formerly known as Mission Day, Serve 1:8 is a church-wide emphasis on living out Acts 1:8 by sharing the gospel in our Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. The First Clarksville Conservatory is hiring!

The First Clarksville Conservatory is a Christian music lesson program providing students and adults the opportunity to study music in a church environment. Our application for Fall semester instructors is now open! The Conservatory is seeking instructors for piano, voice, violin, viola, and guitar. While many of our instructors have degrees in music, you are welcome to apply if you have studied music previously and would like to share your talents by teaching the next generation of church musicians.

SAFETY AND SECURITY TEAM UPDATES

• In September the Safety and Security Team, in conjunction with the Preschool, Kids and Students Ministries, participated in active shooter training. 

• We are always looking for men and women interested in volunteering for the Safety and Security Team.  The commitment is to serve one Sunday morning a month.  

• We have positions for armed and unarmed guards and tech savvy volunteers to operate our camera systems.  We also have positions medical professionals on our Medical Team.

The Cost of Kindness

If your budget isn’t being kind to you, there are some free or low-cost acts of kindness you and your family can do.  A few ideas to get you started:

• Use sidewalk chalk to write encouraging notes on sidewalks in your neighborhood or at a nearby park.

• Volunteer to water an elderly neighbor’s garden.

• Plan a board game night (or day) or other fun event for residents of a local nursing home.

• Double a favorite cookie recipe and leave it at a friend’s house for a little encouragement.

• Paint rocks with kind messages and hide them at local parks for others to discover. Pray for the person who will find the rock.

• Place bottled water and snacks in a cooler on your front step, clearly designated as a thank-you gift to postal workers and delivery drivers.

• Share homegrown produce with a neighbor or at a local food pantry.

Encourage kindness between siblings and other family members.  Challenge your family to do three kind things for someone else in your house each week.

Ideas for Fall Family Fun

Leaves are changing, temperatures are cooler, fall is here.  Turn off your computer, put down your cell phone, and grab the kids for some fun fall family activities.

1-- Carve a pumpkin:  Visit a local pumpkin farm or farmers’ market.  Let your child choose a pumpkin.  Cut off the top and let your child  take out all the gooey insides.  Wash and roast the seeds and carve your jack-o’-lantern.

2—Go on a nature hike:  Find a local hiking trail or state park to explore.  Talk to your child about nature and God’s beautiful world.

3—Create a fall scavenger hunt:  Make a list of things you find outside in the fall like an acorn, a red leaf, a pinecone.  Race to see who can find the items listed first.   You could do the scavenger hunt while on the nature hike.

4—Make fall crafts:  Gather paints and brushes, crayons and markers, and other art supplies.  Go outside and collect a variety of fall things or use the items from your fall scavenger hunt.  Let the family get creative to make fall crafts.  Be sure to decorate your home with your child’s creations.
