MILITARY MINISTRY - DR. RICHARD E. DAVIS BIO

Just a little about me in that I am a follower of Jesus Christ since 2007, husband of my beautiful bride, Tina, dad of two amazing daughters and two great son-in-law’s, and grandpa of seven wonderfully talented grandchildren. I am a combat Veteran with twenty years of active duty service in the United States Army. The military lifestyle has been both rewarding and challenging as Tina has packed and moved our family several times during my military career as I always seemed to arrive at a unit just in time to deploy. It was an incredible journey that ended with my retirement in July 2011. My last ten years of service was with 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. De Oppresso Liber

After coming to faith in Jesus Christ in 2007, I was licensed to the work in the Gospel ministry by my former church in Kentucky and later ordained to the work of the Gospel ministry at a church in Tennessee. My bride and I joined First Baptist Clarksville in membership in 2016 after accepting a part time position to serve on staff with the Military Ministry. I have earned a Bachelor of Science in Religion from Liberty University, a Master of Theological Studies-Missions Emphasis, a Master of Theology-Applied Theology, and a Doctor of Educational Ministry from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (MBTS). In 2018 I became a Certified Trauma Professional (CTP) through Evergreen Certifications and have maintained yearly educational requirements through the Professional Education Systems Institute (PESI). I am also a life member of the Special Forces Association, the National Rakkasan Association, and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) organization.

My Doctor of Educational Ministry (DEdMin) with Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary focused on equipping local churches in developing integrated trauma care ministries to care for spouses of combat veterans struggling posttraumatic stress caused by war. The project examines the impact posttraumatic stress caused by war can have on the entire family and how the church can be better equipped to respond holistically to our military families by becoming trauma informed and trauma responsive.

In my spare time I enjoy fishing for Largemouth Bass with my bride, which my girl can fish! Hunting turkey and deer when there is an opportunity, a novice blogger, developing my BBQ skills, desire to play more golf, an active reader of books and journals, and playing with our two Siberian Huskies.

All the best!
