The bible makes it clear (James 1:27) that caring for orphans is not reserved only for a few Christians – it is commanded of the entire church. Earthly adoption is one of the most powerful pictures of our spiritual adoption in Christ.  We were once fatherless but are now rescued out of the spiritual “fatherlessness” of our world into God’s family. By mirroring God’s response to us, we demonstrate the good news to our friends and neighbors.

The command found in James 1:27 also includes caring for children who are not adoptable or need temporary care through programs such as foster care.  We want to be a church that offers radical hospitality to the fatherless as a sign of the kingdom of God.
